Howdy dA, long time no update.

I apologize for neglecting my dA account because quite frankly I don't think I haven't made things good enough lately that I want to upload on teh internetz. However in case you think I'm dead or curious on my resurrection methods here's a brief update for 2010 thus far.

Chairman

I've volunteered for the student television production company of RMIT, aptly named RMITV, for the past two years volunteering for a whole bunch of shows on community television. Well, as of April I was elected Chairperson of this organisation! It's really a new and exciting experience for me as we get to have board meetings, plan ways to better the organisation whilst also dealing with logistical issues such as hiring of staff, replacing board members and amending the constitution.

It's a challenging experience but well worth it.

Television

As an RMITV member, I have as always volunteered on TV shows for Channel 31. This year was quite exciting and here are the shows I worked on as follows.

:bulletred: Studio A
:bulletred: Newsline
:bulletred: Destination 90s
:bulletred: The Inquiry
:bulletred: Stefan and Craig

I had fun working on most of these shows except for The Inquiry but that's a personal issue rather than an attack on the show itself.
I also did the opening titles to a kid's show called Storytime in which you can find somewhere in my gallery.

Other things

Well, I've kinda started working for a friend's startup business. It's pretty exciting stuff because I get to work on my craft whilst working with my friends. I've done one job so far with was a basic logo design + splash page for a website but I'll be sure to inform you when things become more full on

So, what have you guys been up to?

Goings and Happenings

Its been a long time since I've updated you dA peeps on what's been going on in my life so might as well do it now. I've been volunteering a lot lately for the student organisation I'm in, RMITV, so I've been doing a lot of community television shows. I did graphics for a show called Chai Latte, which I wasn't happy with, and animation for a children's show called Storytime with Tall Ted.
View it here.

I also filled in for about 4 or so episodes of 'Studio A' but the real fun experience for me was working on a show called The Inquiry. My friend co-produced and directed it and it was a fun 13 episodes (last episode was a bit of a disaster but live tv lol).

Watch all clips form the show here .

Essentially its a news satire program similar I suppose to The Colbert Report and The Daily Show except more youth oriented. I worked on it primarily as Graphics Op however I did short stints as Tape Op, Assistant Director and Cam Op when the need for crew was desperate enough. I also made some cameos in the pre-tapes of the show which I will subsequently link for your enjoyment or out of curiosity as to what I look like =P
:bulletred: Homelessness Pre-tape, I play a marine biologist 2:42-3:35
:bulletred: Sex Tourism Pre-Tape, I play DJ, the Filipino male sex slave from 1:30 onwards.

I also had a brief cameo in 3 other pre-tapes in which I get brutally attacked, stare at a computer screen and play a female reporter's left hand. Fun times :)

I had also finished my 2nd year at uni, the semester I just finished I had  High Distinctions in all of my Design Subjects so my specialization for 3rd and 4th year is a bit obvious

Sports

Red Sox eliminated in the first round of the playoff so that put me on suicide watch. Celtics are dominant so that's encouraging yet the Mighty Patriots look awfully mortal lately :S

Music

I've been listening to a lot more music these days. Mighty Mighty Bosstones new album is fantastic, love it to bits especially the song 'I Wrote It' and also 'Waster Summers' which is about Johnny Damon from Red Sox/Yankees fame as well as my friend's band, Tyrian Dawn, whose album was fantastic.

Future Projects

I have a few projects planned. A Christmas animation which I've storyboarded already and plan to finish in the next week or two. Also I have a few illustrations I've planned for a while. Can't wait for you all to see it :)

I ordered a Wacom tablet

Wednesday evening I ordered a Wacom 6x9 Bamboo tablet and Friday morning it arrived!
I've been using it since then and though I'm a little rough on it I am having a blast. There's a pretty steep learning curve at using a tablet but I'm getting more and more used to it as I use ArtRage for some random sketches :)

I've wanted a tablet ever since I was a teenager and now that I have one I couldn't be any more ecstatic. The only flaw is that it could be too distracting and I might forget to do my assignment due this week for programing :bucktooth:

Uni update

I recently uploaded my deviations that were assignments for my Electronic Imaging and Design class. I'm quite happy with the results and I'm sure I'll be marked well on it. The upcoming assignment has me on edge though as we have to create a photographic essay and I have virtually no photographic experience :slow:

Though the final part of the photographic essay requires us to make a gallery in Flash and I'll probably ace that portion the photographic aspect still worries me somewhat :)

Sports

Celtics up 2-1 on the baby Bulls.

I'm literally watching the yankees beating the Sox for their first encounter of the year :(

//EDIT Red Sox rally, Red Sox wins!!! :boogie:

But enough about me, how are you

Happy Easter

Its been a while since I last updated my journal for dA (since Baseball season ended actually lol) and now I'm updating it for you all :D

First off, Happy Easter. Whether you celebrated Easter during the Orthodox weekend or this weekend or don't celebrate Easter at all and just celebrating the break I hope you have a great few days.

Now unfortunately the last few months, particularly during the holidays from uni, I haven't been as frequent to dA as much as I'd like. But since March I've submitted two deviations which are Political AIDS poster and Website Design.

I have a few more assignments due for uni including a a re-vamp of my GUI which would have to do with my theme for my political poster and my self-portrait of a machine which hopefully would look awesome. I've been planning some animations too but I'll work on those puppies after I'm done for the semester hopefully :)

Baseball season has started
The Red Sox started great this year with Beckett looking like the best pitcher on the planet but subsequent games by Lester and Dice-K weren't as impressive. But hey, at least the Yankees are having a terrible start .

For my design class I had to make a design blog which I regularly update but I've been lagging behind lately so I guess I better update it soon :giggle:

Ugh I have this class called Web3D, which is based off x3D which is the successor to VRML, and I struggled to complete my assignment for it. We had to create a 3D Rubik's Twist (Snake) and animate it with its solutions amongst other things.

This was a difficult assignment because a) We have little knowledge of the language in our first 4 weeks of class in which we essentially learned nothing, b)Its more of a logic assignment rather than testing our Web3D knowledge and c) the submission process HAD to be done with the Universities UNIX turnin method rather than the easier and clearly superior alternative which every other course with the exception of ironically the IT courses at RMIT which is online submission from home via a system known as Blackboard.

But no, I had to go all the way to uni, arrange a folder on an OS I'm not so fluent in and submit it using odd commands due to me being 3 hours late :|

Well that's good enough for an update, have a great day
