My response to the FairExposure aspect of deviantArt that was recently introduced.

No, I don't like it.

They might as well rename the popular section to FairExposure or better yet "random deviations a math formula thinks you should see" and the Prints is the only true form of popular deviation we can really browse through.

Honestly.

Scroll through the "popular" section. Now scroll through the prints section.

Which is of higher quality and of higher quantity of excellence. The prints section! Before the change the prints section was kinda the sequel to the popular section as both contained the same works only prints displayed them shortly afterwards (showcase wise). But now the popular section is just filled with stuff getting exposed submitted in some lowly category that no-one cares about.

I don't have a problem with the new stuff on the Front page. More artists get exposure, same old guys don't get over-exposure and keeps the front page fresh and interesting. it's great. But they got rid of the popular section so that it screws with our browsing of art!

For example, simply typing "L" in the search engine for browsing gives you 338, 115 results. However usually if you you have popular section activated you can browse through what normally is the best and most popular artwork related to "L". As death note is very popular most results in the popular section relates to the character L. However with this new FairExposure system stuff like barely seen devID's and rough sketches are mixed in with the popular, and usually excellent, bunch that totally do not deserve it. An example. 34 views and one favourite does not warrant placement here under normal circumstances.

To me the front page is fine now, but the popular section needs to come back as it was or at least play around with the algorithm so that more quality art become prominent.
